CNC Machine Operator - Structural Steel Fabrication

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys running equipment, solving problems, working accurately, and keeping production moving. You’ll work with modern structural steel processing equipment in a fast-paced fabrication environment where quality and productivity matter.

Position Overview

The CNC Machine Operator is responsible for processing structural steel accurately and efficiently using equipment such as our Ocean Avenger Plus CNC drill line, CNC plasma table, and band saw.

You will work from shop drawings, cut lists, and production information to make sure material is processed correctly and ready for fabrication.

Accuracy is critical. The right candidate will take ownership of their equipment, catch problems before they become costly mistakes, and help keep material flowing through the shop.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC drill line, plasma cutting equipment, band saws, and other steel processing machinery.
• Read and understand shop drawings, cut lists, and production information.
• Measure and verify structural steel before and after processing.
• Perform accurate drilling, cutting, coping, and material processing.
• Set up machines for different material sizes and production requirements.
• Monitor equipment during operation and make adjustments when needed.
• Identify incorrect material, dimensions, or programming before processing.
• Troubleshoot basic machine and production issues.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance and daily equipment inspections.
• Keep machines and surrounding work areas clean and organized.
• Coordinate with fabrication, material handling, QC, and production leadership.
• Maintain production quality while meeting daily production goals.
• Follow all company safety procedures.
• Assist with training additional operators as needed.

Qualifications

• 2 years of machine operation experience preferred.
• Structural steel fabrication or CNC machine experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with CNC drill lines, plasma tables, structural saws, or similar equipment is a plus.
• Ability to read shop drawings and understand dimensions and material callouts.
• Comfortable using tape measures and other measuring tools accurately.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Able to work independently without constant supervision.
• Dependable and able to maintain a consistent work schedule.
• Willing to learn additional equipment and processes.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.
