Job Description
As a key member of the Engineering team, the Technical Illustrator is responsible for producing and delivering end-user technical illustrations for packaging equipment to be included in technical manuals, assembly books and catalogs, digital content, and supplemental materials. This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and will collaborate cross functionally to produce parts and assembly illustrations, as well as verify accuracy of content by obtaining SME technical reviews. This position ensures that all illustrations and diagrams meet established content standards as well as customer-specific requirements. This position works closely with many different departments to meet deadlines. This position is a key part of each project team and participates in all aspects of product development as a user advocate.
This position will be based at our headquarters in Greenville, South Carolina.

Roles And Responsibilities
- Produce assembly books and parts catalogs for internal and external customers.
- Update existing parts catalogs as required by changes to equipment and customer demand.
- Work with engineering, assembly, and service staff to ensure clarity and accuracy of material.
- Create illustrations for technical documentation from engineering drawings or photos.
- Work with Technical Writer to produce final technical documentation.
- Ensure that all drawings meet engineering standards as well as customer-specific requirements.
- Track labor by project and task, ensuring work does not exceed project budget.
- Enforce departmental/company graphical standards
- Assist with the implementation of new tools, software, standards.
- Assist with content for use in eLearning and formal training.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and 3 years of related experience or a minimum of 5 years of related exp in lieu of degree.
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in a Technical Writing/Illustration field.
- Ability to determine quickly what a drawing needs to include, what is missing, and how best to present the information for all end users.
- Ability to take technical information and make it usable for average users.
- Ability to create complex graphics and manipulate photos.
- Ability to think analytically and creatively.
- Experience with 3D modeling software, preferably SolidWorks.
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator and Acrobat Professional.
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks a plus.
- Ability to work independently, while meeting deadlines for multiple projects.
- Ability to mentor junior illustrators to develop skills and acquire equipment knowledge.
- Ability to create materials based on research and knowledge of equipment with less reliance on subject matter experts (SMEs).
- Masters own area and has a basic knowledge of products supported and functional processes.
- Drives collaborative efforts and delivers results within a team environment.
- Analytical, detailed oriented with ability to manage time and tasks appropriately.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills.
