We are currently seeking a Purchasing Agent to join our team. This position will be responsible for transactional functions related to the purchasing of materials needed to create final products, as well as supporting control of inventory and order processing. You will utilize a combination of computer, communication and organizational skills to support the manufacturing functions of the company. Key Responsibilities:
- Create and submit RFQs and Purchase Orders to suppliers; follow-up on order changes, back-orders, delivery schedules and warranty programs.
- Place orders with vendors for the purchase of materials and equipment, in the proper quantity and standards of quality to conform with approved project specifications; adhere to requirements of project Owners, municipalities, and contractors.
- Set up and maintain contact and company information for suppliers and vendors in transaction system (Quickbooks).
- Set up and maintain shared files for all vendor related documents, including quotes, acknowledgements, packing lists, correspondence, pricing lists, etc.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with suppliers; respond to inquiries regarding status of quotes provided and jobs awarded.
- Collaborate with Purchasing team and Production team to maintain adequate stock, and track incoming delivery schedules for new materials.
- Coordinate, track and verify delivery of manufacturer direct shipped items to customers; resolve obstacles and discrepancies and disputes.
- Participate in annual physical inventory balancing; reconcile variances where applicable.
Qualifications:
- Associates in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or related field. (look if these degrees exist)
- Two years’ successful experience in purchasing or procurement in a construction or manufacturing business.
- One years’ successful experience in direct sales and customer service in a business-to-business and business-to-government sales model, within a public sector industry.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Basic knowledge of construction estimation and quotation protocol, and custom manufacturing operations
- Working knowledge of materials acquisition.
- Proficient knowledge including Microsoft Word applications; Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.
- Excellent math and organization skills
Nature and Scope:
- Professional level position that requires independent thinking and decision-making
- Will work in South Plainfield office.
- May occasionally be required work hours in addition to the regular work schedule.
