Duties
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients’ emotional, cognitive, and physical needs to tailor effective music therapy interventions
- Design and implement engaging individual and group therapy sessions utilizing techniques such as behavioral therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, and recreational therapy
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including medical staff, mental health professionals, and caregivers—to coordinate holistic patient care plans
- Document all patient interactions accurately in medical records while adhering to HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and compliance
- Utilize CPT coding for billing purposes related to outpatient services and maintain detailed records of treatment progress
- Support patients with diverse conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, dementia, disabilities, addiction issues, or mental health challenges through specialized music therapy approaches
- Educate families and caregivers on therapeutic strategies to reinforce progress outside clinical sessions
Requirements
- Current Board Certification in Music Therapy from an accredited organization (e.g., American Music Therapy Association)
- Proven experience working with children, individuals with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, or dementia care is highly preferred
- Knowledge of behavioral health principles and experience applying behavioral therapy techniques within music therapy sessions
- Familiarity with medical documentation standards, including CPT coding and HIPAA compliance for patient records
- Ability to work effectively in outpatient settings and hospice care environments while managing multiple patient cases
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage patients across age groups in individual or group counseling sessions
- Experience integrating art therapy, dance therapy, recreational therapy, or other expressive modalities into treatment plans is a plus
