Position Summary
The Electrical Industrial Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all electrical construction, installation, maintenance, and commissioning activities within industrial facilities and projects. This role provides leadership to electrical crews, contractors, and supervisors while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with applicable codes, company standards, and project specifications.
The Electrical Industrial Superintendent serves as a key liaison between project management, engineering, clients, and field personnel to coordinate resources, resolve technical issues, and drive successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
- Lead, supervise, and coordinate electrical foremen, electricians, apprentices, and subcontractors.
- Plan and organize daily, weekly, and long-term work activities.
- Monitor workforce productivity and ensure efficient utilization of labor and equipment.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct crew meetings, toolbox talks, and performance evaluations.
Project Execution
- Oversee installation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of industrial electrical systems.
- Ensure work is performed according to engineering drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
- Coordinate electrical activities with mechanical, instrumentation, civil, and other trades.
- Review project plans and identify potential issues before they impact project delivery.
- Track project progress and provide regular updates to project management.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure strict compliance with OSHA regulations, NFPA standards, NEC requirements, and company safety policies.
- Conduct field inspections and safety audits.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns and implement corrective actions.
- Verify all permits, lockout/tagout procedures, and energized work protocols are followed.
- Promote safe work practices and hazard awareness throughout all project phases.
Quality Assurance
- Monitor workmanship to ensure quality standards are met.
- Conduct inspections and verify installations comply with applicable codes and client requirements.
- Review testing and commissioning documentation.
- Resolve quality issues and implement corrective measures when necessary.
- Support project turnover and closeout activities.
Planning & Resource Management
- Develop manpower forecasts and project staffing plans.
- Coordinate procurement and delivery of materials, tools, and equipment.
- Monitor project budgets and labor costs.
- Identify schedule risks and implement solutions to maintain project milestones.
- Support project estimating and planning activities.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
- Serve as the primary field contact for clients, vendors, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Attend project meetings and provide status updates.
- Address client concerns professionally and promptly.
- Maintain positive working relationships to ensure customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Journeyman Electrician certification preferred.
- Associate's degree or technical training in Electrical Technology, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 7-8 years of industrial electrical experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
- Extensive knowledge of industrial electrical systems, power distribution, motor controls, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA, OSHA, and applicable industry regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Proficiency with scheduling, reporting, and project management software.
