Job Description – High School Summer Workers – Migrant Program

 

Title: High School Summer Workers – Migrant Program

Department: Migrant Education Program

Classification: Student Interns

Supervised by: Program Director or Designee

 

Position Purpose:

 

This position assists the instructional staff and program director with Migrant Summer School.  Focus of work is on educational assistance, supervision of students, and class preparation.

 

Job Qualifications: Education and Experience:

 

    • High School Student – Age 16 or 17 
    • Currently enrolled in public, private or homeschool program.

 

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.

 

 

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: 

High School Summer Workers Background Check form  – To be completed by HS Administrator or counselor, annually.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  1. Demonstrate professional character in all job responsibilities.  Display courteous, polite disposition, exercising tact and diplomacy.
  2. Provide assistance and follow through to questions and inquiries; when necessary, direct questions and concerns to appropriate staff.
  3. Support teachers with instruction and supervision.
  4. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to acquiring new tasks and learning new skills.
  5. Perform other related duties, as assigned, to support the success of the Migrant Education Program.
  6. Notify your supervisor in advance of any changes to your work schedule or other commitments that will affect work availability.
  7. Give advance notice when unable to work a scheduled shift.
  8. Take the job seriously and perform at the highest level of your ability.
  9. Treat your supervisor and fellow employees with respect.
  10. Dress appropriately for the job location (some work sites have dress codes).
  11. Practice good personal hygiene. Be sure to shower or bathe regularly, use deodorant, brush teeth, etc.
  12. Report to work on time.
  13. Notify your supervisor in advance of any possible delays.
  14. Do not conduct personal business on the job.
  15. Refrain from using cell phones and personal laptops or tablets while on the job.
  16. Report any workplace accidents or injuries immediately.

    • Ability to comprehend, interpret and explain pertinent laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. 
    • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.

    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
    • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

 

  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to make accurate mathematical computations or apply standardized statistical procedures.

 

Reasoning Ability: 

 

    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  

 

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

  • Follow all District policies, work procedures and reasonable requests by proper authority. 
  • Maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to a student, family, colleague or District patron.

  • Attend trainings related to professional growth to stay current on best practices.
  • Report suspected abuse or any safety issue to the supervisor.
