Infant Assistant Guide – Ithaca Montessori School

Join the dedicated and nurturing team at Ithaca Montessori School as an Infant Assistant Guide. In this meaningful role, you will support our Infant Community by helping create a warm, respectful, and developmentally appropriate environment for our youngest learners. Guided by Montessori principles, you will help foster independence, trust, and early development during a child’s most formative months.

This position offers a wonderful opportunity to grow professionally while working alongside experienced Montessori educators in a collaborative and supportive setting.

Duties

  • Assist in the care and supervision of infants, ensuring their safety, comfort, and emotional well-being at all times
  • Support the Lead Guide in preparing and maintaining a calm, orderly, and engaging Montessori environment
  • Help implement developmentally appropriate activities that support physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth
  • Follow all health, safety, and sanitation protocols, including diapering, feeding, and sleep routines
  • Observe and support each child’s individual development, helping to document progress as needed
  • Engage with infants through responsive caregiving, language-rich interactions, music, and movement
  • Collaborate with classroom staff to maintain consistency and continuity of care
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with families regarding their child’s daily experiences

Qualifications

  • Experience working with infants or in an early childhood setting (Montessori experience is a plus)
  • Understanding of or interest in Montessori philosophy and child-centered learning
  • Knowledge of infant development and best practices in early care
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
  • Gentle, patient, and responsive caregiving approach
  • Strong observation skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to the evolving needs of infants throughout the day

Pay: $16.90 - $17.50 per hour
