Horizontal Directional Drill Operator

Job Description

The Drill Operator perform a variety of tasks, operating various types of equipment primarily related to the construction of telecommunications and a Fiber-to-the Home (FttH) Network. This position will operate heavy to light excavation equipment as well as place and bury fiber pathways, including operation of horizontal/directional drill rigs, locating equipment and product support equipment.

Responsibilities

Operates excavation equipment for installation of underground telecommunications cable conduit, including fiber optic cable.

• Prepares construction sites for building, demolition, or excavation.
• Transports tools and other construction equipment to and from construction sites.
• Responsible for avoiding existing cables and digging in accordance with blueprints and designated plans.
• Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
• Setup and cleanup of work site including traffic and pedestrian control.
• Inspects and fuels vehicle prior to beginning shift.
• Performs routine maintenance and repairs.
• Reads utility locates and coordinating day lighting of these facilities.
• Ensures all applicable permits and locates are complete and on site.
• Inspects the work that is in progress to ensure that the workmanship conforms to specifications.
• Operates construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
• Ensuring sites are kept clean and safe.
  
  

Requirements:

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent, and at least one (1) year experience. Vocational school training or apprenticeship preferred.
• On-the-job training offered. Must be available to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
