BARISTA

Summary/Objective

The barista promotes coffee consumption by educating customers, selling coffee, coffee grinding and preparing and serving a variety of coffee drinks, along with pastries and baked goods.

Qualifications: 

1. Must speak Fluent English.

2. Must have a valid Driver’s License and a mode of transportation.

3. Must be 21 years of age or older.

4. Must have at least 1 (one) year of experience in the Food and Beverage or Hospitality industry.

5. Must have a High School Diploma.

6. Must be available to work at least 20 hours a week.

7. Cannot have a Felony or Misdemeanor on record.

8. Must have two valid forms of identification that qualifies employee to work in the United States.

9. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Essential Functions

· Welcomes customers by determining their coffee interests and needs.

· Educates customers by presenting and explaining the coffee drink menu; answering questions.

· Sells coffees by explaining differences in coffee beans and coffee preparation machines; demonstrating how brewing equipment operates.

· Prepares and sells coffee drinks by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques for coffee drinks, such as, expresso, expresso lungo, caffe latte, and cappuccino.

· Generates revenues by attracting new customers; defining new and expanded services and products.

· Maintains inventories by replenishing coffee bean supply; stocking coffee brewing equipment; maintaining supplies, pastries, and baked goods for coffee bar.

· Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.

· Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations.

· Improves quality results by studying, evaluating, and re-designing processes; implementing changes; maintaining and improving the appearance of the store and coffee bar.

· Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading coffee, retail trade, and food service publications; maintaining personal networks.

· Enhances coffee shop reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This position operates in a restaurant setting. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. The employee may be exposed to hazards including, but are not limited to, cuts, slipping, tripping, falls and burns. Frequent hand washing is required.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching. The position may require occasional lifting of products weighing up to 25 pounds.

Required Education and Experience

Highschool Diploma

Minimum 4yrs experience in related field.

Preferred Education and Experience

1. Prior server/ Barista experience.

2. College Degree
