Position Summary
The 2nd shift Safety Assistant supports the company's safety program by conducting routine floor walks, identifying and addressing unsafe conditions, monitoring compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and assisting with the investigation and documentation of workplace safety incidents.
The Safety Assistant will work closely with supervisors, team leaders, maintenance, HR, and employees to promote a safe work environment and ensure that established safety policies and procedures are followed.
Essential Responsibilities
Safety Floor Walks
- Conduct scheduled and unscheduled safety inspections throughout the manufacturing facility.
- Observe employees and work areas for compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
- Verify that employees are properly wearing required PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, safety shoes, and other required equipment.
- Identify unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, housekeeping concerns, and potential hazards.
- Communicate safety concerns to supervisors and department leadership and follow up to ensure corrective actions are completed.
Incident and Injury Response
- · Respond to workplace incidents involving safety concerns, minor injuries, and accidents.
- · Assist with the initial response to minor workplace injuries and ensure employees receive appropriate medical attention when necessary.
- · Report incidents promptly to the appropriate supervisor, Safety Manager, and HR.

Forklift and Material Handling Safety
- Conduct routine observations of forklift operations and material-handling activities.
- Verify that forklift operators are following established safety procedures.
- Report unsafe forklift operation, speeding, improper parking, improper loading, or other unsafe practices.
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Conduct routine checks to verify compliance with established Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Observe maintenance and equipment activities to ensure required energy-control procedures are being followed.
- Report any LOTO violations or unsafe conditions immediately to the appropriate supervisor and Safety Manager
