What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tech-Savvy Tax Alalyst position at iSphere?
Job Details
Tax Analyst (Sales & Use / Property Tax)
50% Remote | Long-term / Ongoing
MUST LIVE IN THE HOUSTON AREA
Growth path built in: Tax Analyst to Senior Tax Analyst
This is a great role for someone who likes numbers and systems, the kind of person who enjoys reconciling accounts, spotting inconsistencies, and then asking, Why are we still doing this manually?
iSphere is looking for a Tax Analyst who wants to grow deeper into Sales & Use Tax and Property Tax, while also leaning into the tech side of tax. You ll support compliance and reporting, but just as importantly, you ll help improve how tax work gets done through better tracking, cleaner data, and smarter use of tools.
The role is hybrid (about 50% remote), but you must live in the Houston area to collaborate onsite as needed.
What you ll be doing (in plain English)
You ll help keep tax filings accurate and on time, support reconciliations (there s a meaningful reconciliation component here), and maintain the data behind exemptions, licenses, and property tax filings. A lot of your time will be spent in Excel and internal systems. There you'll be building reports, analyzing variances, and making sure tax data ties out cleanly.
You ll also get exposure to registrations in new jurisdictions, tax-related journal entries, and process documentation. Over time, this role naturally evolves toward becoming more of a tax technologist; someone who understands both the rules and the systems that support them.
Must-haves
-
You must live in the Houston area
-
Bachelor s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, IT, Analytics, or similar (or equivalent experience)
-
2 years of experience in accounting, tax, finance operations, or analytical support
-
Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations, reporting)
-
High attention to detail and comfort juggling multiple priorities
-
Genuine interest in learning Sales & Use Tax and Property Tax (prior experience is helpful, not mandatory)
Nice to have (but not deal-breakers)
-
Experience with Sales & Use Tax and/or Property Tax
-
Exposure to ERPs like SAP, Oracle, Dynamics AX, or similar
-
Comfort working with systems, data, and reporting tools
-
An automation mindset (SQL exposure is a plus, not required)
Why people do well in this role
You ll thrive here if you re curious, logical, and tech-savvy; someone who enjoys understanding how things work, not just checking boxes. If you like reconciling data, improving processes, and growing your skill set toward a senior-level tax role, this position gives you room to do exactly that.
If you re Houston-based and looking for a long-term role with real growth not just repetitive compliance work; this one s worth a closer look.
