Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) — School-Based


Position Type: Classified / Clinical Support | School-Based

Schedule: Full-Time or Part-Time (School Year)

Setting: K–12 Public School Environment

Reports To: Supervising Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)

Position Overview


ISO Workforce Alliance is seeking a dedicated Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) to provide direct support services to students with speech, language, and communication disorders under the supervision of a credentialed Speech-Language Pathologist. The SLPA supports assessment, intervention, documentation, and program implementation to help students achieve their communication and IEP goals.

This role is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, compassionate, and passionate about supporting students with diverse communication needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct speech-language screenings (without interpretation) using protocols provided by the supervising SLP.

  • Provide direct treatment support to students individually, in small groups, or in classroom settings.

  • Implement documented treatment plans and collect data on student progress toward goals.

  • Assist with assessments, including preparing materials, formal documentation, and clerical support.

  • Maintain student records, schedules, charts, and confidential compliance documentation.

  • Support the setup, use, and basic maintenance of speech and AAC equipment and materials.

  • Accompany students to and from therapy sessions as needed.

  • Communicate professionally with students, families, school staff, and the supervising SLP.

Required Qualifications

  • One of the following:

    • Associate's Degree (AA/AS) in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant from a Board-approved program, or

    • Bachelor's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Sciences, or related field with at least 70 hours of clinical experience.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid California SLPA License issued by the Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology Board.

  • Prior experience in a public school or educational setting.

  • Valid California Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of speech and language disorders, intervention strategies, and assistive communication tools.

  • Ability to follow and implement therapy plans developed by a supervising SLP.

  • Strong documentation, organization, and time-management skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with IEP and special education regulations.

  • Compassion, patience, and professionalism when working with students with special needs.

  • Ability to operate standard office, classroom, and therapy equipment.

Physical & Working Conditions

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move between classrooms and therapy spaces.

  • Ability to lift and carry materials up to approximately 20–30 lbs occasionally.

  • Ability to use hands and fingers for typing, writing, and operating equipment.

  • Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively with students and staff.
