Patient Engagement Specialist / Medical Office Assistant
Island Psychiatry is seeking a compassionate, organized professional to join our team as a Patient Engagement Specialist.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys helping people and supporting the day-to-day administrative needs of a busy mental health office. In many cases, you will be the first person patients speak with, helping guide them through scheduling, questions, and communication with the office.
Island Psychiatry is a leading outpatient psychiatric practice on Long Island, serving patients across the region with thoughtful, patient-centered care.
Our practice operates offices in the Port Jefferson and Huntington areas.
Position Overview
This position sits at the intersection of patient support and practice operations.
Responsibilities
Serve as a primary contact for patients by phone, email, and text
Help patients navigate scheduling and communication with providers
Assist with patient reception
Submit superbills and assist with insurance documentation
Relay patient messages to providers with discretion
Maintain accurate records across practice systems
Help troubleshoot scheduling and operational issues
Assist in maintaining the smooth daily flow of the practice

Excellent communication and professional phone presence
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Strong computer skills and comfort managing multiple software systems
Ability to multitask and problem solve independently
Students studying or interested in mental health, psychology, social work, counseling, psychiatry, pre-med, or related fields are especially encouraged to apply. No prior experience is required. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a mental health office and work alongside clinicians
Experience in administration and/or healthcare or mental health settings is helpful but not required.
Spanish-speaking candidates are a plus.

$22 per hour to start
Paid Time Off: Full-time employees (30 hours a week) will receive 1 week of vacation and 1 week of sick annually.
