What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Quality Improvement Specialist position at ISLAND PEER REVIEW ORGANIZATION INC?
In the Sr. Quality Improvement Specialist (QIS) role, you will be responsible for facilitating healthcare quality improvement strategies (HCQIP) to promote healthcare improvement in specific health care settings (hospital, nursing homes, ambulatory clinics, physician offices, etc.). The Sr. Quality Improvement Specialist (QIS) plays a lead role in educating staff who deliver about health care quality improvement principles and methods; assists facility management and staff in identifying opportunities for improvement and devising strategies/plans to address them; evaluates facility progress and suggests ways to overcome barriers; facilitates organization of regional groups of providers to address common problems and share best practices. The Sr. QIS plays a lead role in project management, manages and mentors QISs, and makes presentations before large groups and IPRO senior management on the results of performance improvement projects. The Sr. QIS will manage the work at the state level; build relationships with federal, state, local, and community-and private-sector partners; and serve their assigned Providers/Practices (P/Ps). Duties include but are not limited to:
- Developing and continually refining methods for working with healthcare provider staff to implement effective and timely interventions that improve performance on quality indicators.
- Conducting one-to-one meetings with healthcare providers and key stakeholders.
- Closely monitoring the progress of provider staff in their intervention efforts, developing and maintaining a tracking system for the intervention phase of all cooperative projects.
- Assessing the quality improvement training and information needs of physicians, nurses, health care administrators and ancillary staff.
- Offering data driven technical assistance and consulting to providers in response to the assessment of their quality improvement plans.
- Ensuring internal reports and required contractor reports related to assigned providers are completed and submitted on time.
- Conducting research and maintaining expertise in assigned state's healthcare landscape, engaging defined health care providers, key stakeholders and interested parties in QI initiatives and current and emerging events.
- Serving as the primary or secondary (back-up) to QISs for assigned list of providers.
- Meeting with provider senior leaders and facilitating monthly partner meetings to assess state-specific needs and develop plans to address mutual aims.
- Conducting environmental assessments to understand the needs and deliver appropriate solutions.
- Providing monthly report updates on retention.
- Serving as a mentor and support new employees, team members and peers.
This position is office based at our Jericho, NY or Albany, NY office.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Superior communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to communicate quality improvement data and methods to health care provider staff with varying technical and clinical backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of developing productive relationships with health care provider staff.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage a large database of schedule and reports.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Proven record of success in promoting improvement in health care quality.
- An understanding of disparities in the care of underserved populations.
- Proficient in the use of Salesforce, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to travel to various sites as required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in education, nursing, public administration, public policy, public health or degree in related healthcare programs. Master’s degree preferred.
- Five (5) years of experience in health care quality improvement required.
- Certified Professional in Health Care Quality (CPHQ) preferred.
The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. The annualized salary range for this position is $85,000.00-$90,000.00. Actual salary range and/or hourly rate depends on a variety of factors including experience, education, credentials, location, and budget.
The salary range and/or hourly rate listed does not include other forms of compensation or benefits.
