Shop Manager
Position Summary
The Shop Manager is responsible for leading daily shop operations, driving production efficiency, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring jobs are completed safely, on time, and within budget. This role manages shop labor, workflow, equipment, materials, and team performance while coordinating closely with project management, estimating, and installation teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day shop operations, including fabrication, assembly, finishing, packing, and staging
- Manage shop schedules and labor allocation to hit production deadlines
- Prioritize jobs based on company schedule, installation dates, and project demands
- Supervise shop employees and enforce accountability, productivity, and quality standards
- Train, coach, and develop shop staff on processes, equipment, and safety procedures
- Monitor workmanship and inspect finished products for accuracy, quality, and compliance with drawings/specs
- Coordinate with project managers, designers, and installers to resolve production issues quickly
- Ensure all materials, tools, and equipment are available and ready for production
- Maintain shop organization, cleanliness, and workflow efficiency
- Enforce safety policies, OSHA compliance, and proper use of PPE and machinery
- Troubleshoot shop bottlenecks, quality issues, and production delays
- Track labor hours, production progress, and shop performance metrics
- Oversee equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs as needed
- Help implement process improvements to increase throughput, reduce waste, and improve margins
- Manage inventory of common materials, hardware, and shop supplies
- Support hiring, performance reviews, discipline, and staffing decisions for shop personnel
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of management or supervisory experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, signage, millwork, or related production environment
- Strong knowledge of shop workflow, fabrication methods, tools, and production scheduling
- Ability to read drawings, work orders, and production documents
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage teams and drive results
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability
- Good communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with office and field teams
- Experience with quality control, safety compliance, and production planning
- Forklift and equipment experience preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus

- Signage fabrication
- Metal, acrylic, wood, vinyl, paint, or electrical sign components
- Large custom project manufacturing
- Lean manufacturing or process improvement systems
- ERP, production tracking, or shop scheduling software
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more as needed
- Ability to work in a shop environment around machinery, dust, noise, and production materials

Pay: $55,000.00 - $66,000.00 per year
