Position:  Parks Maintenance Worker
Department:  Parks and Recreation
Job Type:  Part-time, up to 1040 hours annually, based on departmental needs
Work Schedule:  Varies, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Work Setting:  Parks grounds and facilities
FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt
Union:  Teamsters Local 320 Courthouse

Compensation
2025:

  • Expected 2025 Hiring Range: $21.93 – $23.37 per hour, depending on qualifications, relevant experience, and internal equity.
  • Full Range: $21.93 – $28.31 per hour, with the potential for additional longevity-based pay.

    2026:

    • Expected 2026 Hiring Range: $22.70 – $24.19 per hour, depending on qualifications, relevant experience, and internal equity.
    • Full Range: $22.70 – $29.30 per hour, with the potential for additional longevity-based pay.

    General Definition of Work

    Performs work maintaining park grounds and facilities, servicing and repairing park equipment, including natural resource management, and related work as apparent or assigned.

    Work is performed under the supervision of the Division Leader.

    Essential Functions

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.     • Performs manual labor to maintain appearance, repair, construct, and maintain the park system grounds, building, and facilities.
    • Removes fallen trees, stumps, limbs, and related debris resulting from storm damage and general conditions.
    • Assists with snow removal and trail grooming.
    • Performs manual labor to carry out the annual prescribed burn objectives.
    • Repairs, paints, and stains playground equipment, bike racks, bulletin boards, fences, gates, etc.
    • Completes Park improvement projects with other county staff.
    • Identifies plant and animal pests to be controlled; mixes and applies chemicals to control weeds and insects.
    • Performs general maintenance on equipment and tools used in the park system.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School diploma or GED and moderate experience in landscaping and grounds maintenance work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a Class D endorsement in the State of Minnesota.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance used in park work, such as lawn mowers, tractors, sweepers, generators, utility vehicles, snowplows, snow groomers, trucks, trailers, chainsaws, chipper, weed whips, power tools, etc.
    • Ability to perform light carpentry work, welding, plumbing, and electrical.
    • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and completing tasks in a timely manner.
    • Ability to work independently and solving problems with little supervision.
    • Ability to walk long distances in all types of terrain and outdoor conditions.
    • Ability to work some weekends and holidays.
    • Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
    • Ability to maintain a regular and timely work attendance.

    Working Conditions

    Physical Requirements and Activity

    This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires speaking or hearing, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and lifting.

    Sensory Requirements

    Work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.

    Sensory Utilization

    Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly, or fabrication of parts within arm’s length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.

    Environmental Conditions

    Work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g., grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).

    Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a background investigation including a criminal history search.  Costs of the background will be paid for by Isanti County.
