About OCPL: The OC Public Libraries (OCPL) is composed of thirty-three branch libraries located in twenty-four cities and the unincorporated areas of the County. OCPL is an integral participant in the community, providing not only book selections but book discussion groups, children’s story hour, literacy tutoring and internet service to the public.
OCPL Is Looking For Exceptional Individuals That Are
Duties May Include But Are Not Limited To
One year general clerical experience or six months related library experience. Good communication and customer service skills are required.
Related education can be substituted for up to six months experience. Three units of coursework that developed the above acknowledge and abilities equal one month experience.
Physical Requirements
Positions in this class are required to stand for extended periods while assisting patrons checking material in and out of the library, and must be able to lift and move books and materials weighing up to twenty pounds. Incumbents also must be able to operate a keyboard and use a laser barcode reader.

Duties May Include But Are Not Limited To
- Provides library patrons with library information either in person or via telephone including informing of policies and procedures; responding to inquiries; referring patrons to appropriate library personnel for requested services/information; and tactfully responds to difficult patrons, resolving routine problems and referring more difficult problems to responsible personnel.
- Operates a computer terminal in the provision of circulation services to library patrons including charging, discharging, renewals, patron registration, inquiries, and fines and over dues, updating database by adding/deleting gift books, periodicals and new cassettes and records to the branch system, and related functions.
- Collects overdue fines and simple financial transactions.
- May perform opening/closing circulation desk procedures including balancing receipts, verifying drawer cash.
- Assists in ordering and maintaining branch supplies.
- May act as lead clerk in absence of supervisor or lead; assists in training new or part-time circulation desk staff and volunteers.
- Operates a variety of office and library equipment; may perform minor equipment maintenance.
