Position: Adult Probation Agent (Temporary)
Department: County Probation Office
Location: Cambridge, MN
Job Type: Temporary
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Work Setting: On-site; requires regular, in-person attendance
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

This temporary position is anticipated to last approximately 20 weeks, beginning mid-June 2026 to November 2026.

As a temporary position, employment shall not exceed 67 working days in a calendar year. Student employees, who are under the age of 22, a full-time student enrolled in a nonprofit or public educational institution prior to being hired and plan to be in or return to school after employment ends, may work 100 days in a calendar year.

Compensation
$28.00–$30.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and relevant experience.

General Definition of Work
Performs work managing and coordinating cases, conducting field visits and drug testing, mentoring and coaching clients, performing evaluations and assessments, completing required reports, providing testimony in court, and related work as apparent or assigned. 

Work is performed under the general direction of the Probation Director.

Essential Functions
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Manages assigned cases; receives and reviews case documentation; utilizes target intervention strategies to conduct assessments, address criminogenic needs, and determine client risk levels; plans cases; monitors and assists clients with adherence and completion of court order conditions; mentors, coaches, and assists clients with skill building; refers clients to appropriate agencies for additional services.
  • Conducts field visits and drug tests; completes and files related reports; provides feedback and testimony in court.
  • Conducts pre-sentence investigations; completes pre-dispositional reports, domestic violence inventories, chemical use screenings, and cognitive restructuring programming.
  • Completes general office and administrative tasks; conducts in-house UA collections; answers telephone calls; assists offenders with issues and questions; interacts with and provides information to outside agencies - including law enforcement, treatment facilitators and other service providers.
  • Monitors updates, and maintains files and reports; reviews, records, and checks documents; contacts clients for updates and to offer assistance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Requires regular and timely work attendance. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, criminology, or related field and minimal experience managing cases, coaching clients, completing reports, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license in the State of Minnesota.

  • Knowledge of Evidence Based Practices (Motivational interviewing, LS-CMI and Case Planning.
  • Knowledge of counseling and guidance practices and procedures in community and region.
  • Knowledge of Data Practices.
  • Skill in effective oral and writing skills.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and knowledge of current software programs.
  • Ability to provide programming in a classroom setting to clients.
  • Ability to complete thorough social history investigations and to analyze results.
  • Ability to utilize community resources to benefit the client.
  • Ability to organize assigned work and develop and supervise effective work methods.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of clients.
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret case material and formulate case plans for individual treatment.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to make independent decisions which includes apprehension and detention of offenders with Supervisor/Director oversight.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, system partners, public officials and the public.

Working Conditions

Physical Requirements and Activity
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and occasionally requires standing, walking, sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling and repetitive motions.

Sensory Requirements
Work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound.

Sensory Utilization
Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.

Environmental Conditions
Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic).

Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a background investigation including a criminal history search.  Costs of the background will be paid for by Isanti County.
