Purpose of Position/Summary:
Substitute Teachers are responsible for providing instruction and managing the classroom environment in the absence of the classroom teacher. They ensure continuity in the classroom by following lesson plans, maintaining discipline, and promoting a positive learning environment.
Job Duties:
- Deliver lesson plans and instructional materials prepared by the classroom teacher
- Maintain classroom control and discipline in a respectful and professional manner
- Follow all school rules, policies, and procedures
- Adapt teaching methods to meet student needs when necessary
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and administrators
- Take attendance and report any student issues or incidents
- Leave detailed notes or reports for the returning teacher
- Perform other duties as assigned by school administrators
Job Qualifications:
- Candidate must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Valid substitute teaching permit as required by the DOE
- Strong communication and classroom management skills
- Experience working with at-risk student populations preferred
- Must be hardworking, dedicated to the success of students in an urban school setting
