Senior Design Manager, Data Centers – Federal and Special Projects
Job Summary
Iron Mountain is seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager – Federal and Special Projects to join our North America Data Center Design team. In this role, you will serve as a client-facing design professional responsible for conceptual design, project scope development, and detailed design execution for special projects in data centers and critical facilities. You will lead multidisciplinary design delivery across the full project lifecycle, serving as an individual contributor who drives execution through influence, technical guidance, and cross-functional leadership.

Senior Design Manager, Data Centers – Federal and Special Projects
Job Summary
Iron Mountain is seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager – Federal and Special Projects to join our North America Data Center Design team. In this role, you will serve as a client-facing design professional responsible for conceptual design, project scope development, and detailed design execution for special projects in data centers and critical facilities. You will lead multidisciplinary design delivery across the full project lifecycle, serving as an individual contributor who drives execution through influence, technical guidance, and cross-functional leadership.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
In this role, you will:
- Lead End-to-End Design Execution: Own the full design delivery strategy for major facility buildouts, campus phases, or complex regional programs from early site preparation through commissioning and handover.
- Manage Multidisciplinary Integration: Direct multidisciplinary consultants and align civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, controls, security, and operational systems across buildings and infrastructure interfaces.
- Drive Risk & Financial Governance: Lead resolution of technical, commercial, and program risks while providing design reporting and assurance for budgets, schedules, value engineering, and change controls.
- Partner & Mentor: Act as the principal design partner across internal divisions (Construction, Operations, Security, Sustainability) and mentor Design Managers to elevate regional design practices.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Relevant Experience: Typically 10 years of experience with substantial accountability for complex data center or mission-critical capital projects.
- Security & Federal Requirements: U.S. Citizenship is required. Must have the ability to obtain DoD Security Clearance and experience implementing ICD 705 requirements into facilities is preferred.
- Technical Mastery: Deep multidisciplinary understanding of critical-facility systems, consultant governance, codes/standards, permitting, and global vs. local compliance.
- Education & Travel: A University degree in Architecture, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, with the ability to travel up to 25%.
