Design Manager – Data Center
Job Summary
Iron Mountain is seeking a skilled Design Manager to join our North America Design team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of complex design scopes for data center new builds, customer fit-outs, phased expansions, and operational upgrades. Operating with high autonomy, you will direct multidisciplinary consultants and coordinate internal stakeholders to deliver safe, compliant, resilient, and commercially effective solutions.

Design Manager – Data Center
Job Summary
Iron Mountain is seeking a skilled Design Manager to join our North America Design team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of complex design scopes for data center new builds, customer fit-outs, phased expansions, and operational upgrades. Operating with high autonomy, you will direct multidisciplinary consultants and coordinate internal stakeholders to deliver safe, compliant, resilient, and commercially effective solutions.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
In this role, you will:
- Own Complex Design Scopes: Manage the end-to-end design delivery of building systems, major packages, or defined project phases from brief through construction support and commissioning handover.
- Direct Consultants & Stakeholders: Lead external design consultants while coordinating developers, equipment manufacturers, contractors, and internal cross-functional partners in accordance with Iron Mountain standards.
- Establish Plans & Quality Control: Establish package-level design plans, deliverables, decision dates, and review gates, continuously assessing risks to provide evidence-based recommendations.
- Drive Governance & Support: Provide accurate design reporting, support site due diligence and permitting, ensure adherence to global standards, and mentor less experienced colleagues.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Relevant Experience: Typically 5–9 years of relevant experience in data centers, mission-critical facilities, or complex, services-led technical environments.
- Technical Mastery: Strong working knowledge of multidisciplinary data center design (mechanical, electrical, controls, architectural, civil) alongside relevant codes, standards, and permitting processes.
- Cross-Functional & Commercial Skills: Commercial awareness to balance design choices against capital costs, coupled with strong negotiation, written, and presentation skills.
- Core Requirements: A University degree in Architecture, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, U.S. Citizenship, and the ability to travel up to 25%.
