Overview

The Driver is responsible for providing quality transportation services to program participants and the agency. This position requires the driver to comply with the NYC Department of Motor Vehicles regulations at all times. Under the general direction of the Transportation Manager, the function of the position is to ensure reliable passenger transportation with safety as highest priority.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the planned route and schedule for departure times and stops
  • Be attentive to traffic and weather conditions to ensure passenger safety
  • Conduct regular vehicle safety checks to include tires, brakes, turn signals, mechanical equipment, etc.
  • Maintain valid Commercial driver’s license (CLD).
  • Observe safe operation of agency vehicles within state and local government guidelines
  • Maintain trip logs and other reports as may be required
  • Perform daily safety inspection of assigned vehicle.
  • Document and report vehicle maintenance issues to the transportation manager.
  • Attend trainings as specified by the agency.
  • Observe and maintain compliance with regulations relating to consumer rights and incident reporting.
  • Maintain a safe environment for passengers.
  • Ensure passengers are seated and all restraints and belts are in place and working.
  • Report any observed or known incidents involving the health and safety of the people that attend IRI programs.
  • Perform all further activities that support the mission of the agency.

Skills

An employee in this position is regularly required to stand; walk, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; talk and listen, and taste or smell. The employee is required to drive. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to keep balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

· Computer – Drivers must be able to use a computer and able to learn software programs

· Office Equipment- Drivers are required to operate a fax, copier, scan, and other office equipment.

· Driving - Drivers must be able to operate Agency vehicles to transport the participants of the program to different appointments, events and activities. In addition, having and keeping a valid NYS Driver’s License at least one year with less than six (6) points in the past three (3) years is a requirement for this position.

· Communication - Drivers need to be able to speak, read and write fluently in the English language

· Writing - Drivers must be able to write in the English language using correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.

· Lifting- Drivers may frequently lift 0-25 lbs., occasionally lift 25-50 lbs., and rarely lift over 50 lbs.

· Push/Pull- Drivers may frequently push/pull 0-25 lbs. of force, occasionally push/pull 26-45 lbs. force, and rarely push/pull over 45 lbs.

· Sitting- Drivers may sit 50-60% of the working day.

· Standing- Drivers may stand 10-20% of the working day.

· Walking- Drivers may walk 10-20% of the working day.

· Stooping- Drivers may occasionally stoop. This is defined as bending body downward by bending spine at the waist.

· Kneeling- Drivers may occasionally kneel. This is defined as bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s).

Crouching- Driversmay occasionally crouch. This is defined as bending body downward and forward by bending spine and legs.

Pay: $17.74 per hour
