The Senior Director, Human Resources for Ipsen North America is a strategic partner to all Managers based in North America. She/he is responsible for the full-cycle HR activities in North America in partnering with all HR Business Partners, HR Center of Excellence (CoE) for functions having employees in North America.
In partnering with all North American HR Business Partners and managers, he/she drives strategic and operational HR excellence in a growing, transforming business. She/he leads a team of Country HRBPs who provide exceptional HR experience for all employees in NA. She also leads the North American Talent Management and L&D team (TM and L&D) team with a focus on employee development and diversity, equity and inclusion. Along with her team, he/she is responsible for enhancing company culture to achieve high levels of employee engagement and wellness. The team also ensures that U.S. & Canada HR policies, procedures, and processes are in place and are in alignment with applicable legislative requirements in collaboration with the North America HR Operations team.

The Senior Director, North America Human Resources is a member of North American (NA) HR leadership team based in Cambridge, MA, US.
Main Responsibilities & Job Expectations
- Working closely with the SVP, North America HR Head and the North American (NA) HR leadership team to define and deliver the best HR strategy for North American managers & employees.
- Leads HR processes for North America, including performance management, talent management, succession planning, development planning, performance management, annual merit and benefits.
- Provides guidance and coaching to NA leaders and defined NA Leadership team members and managers on people matters related to HR policies and practices, workforce planning and headcount management, talent management, employee relations, compensation, professional development, organizational effectiveness, and employee engagement.
- Oversees all HR operational activities in North America in strong collaboration with NA HR People Services team, including day-to-day employee queries, on/offboarding, employee engagement activities, policy training, and wellness initiatives, etc.
- Leads, coaches and develops a team of Country HR Business Partners in charge of the day-to-day HR activities and the North American Talent Management and Learning and Development Team supporting all North American employees
- Oversees in partnership with the NA Employee Relations the investigations and facilitates the resolution of employee complaints.
- Leads and executes key HR initiatives and projects aligned to the organizational strategic imperatives and goals.
- Oversees diversity and inclusion initiatives in North America working closely with the North American Talent Management and Learning and Development Team, in alignment with the NA strategy.
- Ensures the HR matrix organization (country-division) is efficient and delivers the expected value to the business in North America.
- Partners with the NA Compensation and Benefits team to oversee, administer and maintain employee benefits and compensation programs, including benefit renewal, annual merit and compensation processes, communications to employees, with a goal of ensuring offerings are competitive and implemented with excellence.
- Partners with the NA Talent Acquisition Team to recruit and attract top talent, including working with the managers to define strategic staffing plans.
- Maintains current knowledge and understanding of regulations, laws, industry trends, practices, and developments in Human Resources.
- Identifies, creates, maintains and implements North American HR policies, procedures, and processes, in partnership with NA HR Operations Team, to meet legislative requirements and effect continual improvements in the efficiency of the HR functions.
- Upholds the Ipsen Way of Being, and educates employees accordingly
- Manages relationships and contract processes with external vendors and contractors as required.
- Complies with all laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of Ipsen Canada & U.S. staff.
Education / Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Masters Preferred
- CHRP/CHRL designation preferred
- 7 years of pharmaceutical/biotech/healthcare experience
- 15 years progressive Human Resources experience
- Communications experience preferred
- Previous experience in HR Business Partner role required
- Experience in developing strong relationships through establishing trust and credibility with colleagues.
- Proven track record of decision-making abilities; ability to make decisions logically, methodically, and quickly.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing across all levels of the organization; sound public speaking skills.
- Strategic leadership and dispute resolution skills
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills
- Thorough knowledge of the Canadian and US HR environments and employment-related laws/regulations
- Passion for the patient and drive for results orientation.
