Iowa Western Community College seeks a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Adjunct Instructor. Under minimal supervision, the instructor fosters student learning of Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and/or Bus Driver state issued licensing Programs. Teaching assignments may include lectures and hands-on skills at multiple IWCC locations. The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of both programs. Teaching experience is desirable.

- Provide instruction for CDL and/or Bus Driver courses including using college-approved syllabi, assessments, and grading practices.
- Evaluate and record student performance using IWCC’s student learning platform.
- Communicate with IWCC staff, students, and faculty to ensure student success.
- Ability to demonstrate a pre-trip inspection and skills in backing, turning, shifting and driving techniques.
- Working knowledge of diesel truck operations, diesel engine, air brake, vehicle components and vehicle inspection.
- Maintain knowledge and skills with current DOT, industry rules, regulations and program training requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to deliver high quality classroom, in-cab and on-range instruction. This includes skills course monitoring, road course monitoring and leadership to students in transportation programs.
- Ability to adapt to training content and approach, to meet a wide range of trainees with varying backgrounds.
- Project positive professional appearance, behavior and attitude.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Be at least 21 years old.
- High School Diploma.
- Have a valid Class A CDL license with a clen driving record.
- Maintain a clean driving record.
- Have at least two years of driving and over-the-road (OTR) experience.
- Ability to lift up to 30lbs
- The employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, telephone and basic office equipment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear
- Ability to drive company owned semi/school bus or personal vehicle.
