Summary: Directly responsible for starting and maintaining the Marshalltown Community College Bowling program, with the expectation of the first season being for the school year of 2026-2027. Involves recruiting and retaining student-athletes, assembling a staff, and overall providing daily oversight of a competitive NJCAA Bowling program. Follows all Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD), Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC), and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rules and regulations in administering the program. Supports the development of student athletes. Coordinates travel, game, schedule, inventory, and maintenance of equipment. Further, the Head Bowling Coach will serve in a second college assignment in one of the following areas: Athletic Coordinator, Sports Information Director, Athletic Facilities/Grounds, Admissions, or Residence Life.

Job Responsibilities:
- Develop a high-quality recruiting program supported with a written, well defined plan including recruitment, scheduling, and more. Meet and maintain the minimum roster size established by MCC to best compete and provide a positive collegiate student-athlete experience. Direct and supervise the assistant bowling coaches. Responsible for the bowling team student-athlete retention and roster management. Responsible for marketing the bowling program. Develop and adhere to the budget set forth for the program. Responsible for ordering supplies and equipment, and uniform purchases. Arranges travel for the team’s scrimmages and competitions during the season. Responsible for setting the code of conduct for each student-athlete, and handling discipline accordingly to the rules set forth. Commits to and is responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations set forth for the team, the department, the College, NJCAA, and ICCAC with the utmost integrity. Participates in clinics/ conferences/ staff development for professional growth. Assists in the maintenance and enhancement of communications within the college and the community. Assists in special enrollment days/ senior days/ campus activities. Establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, staff, administrators, clients, and the public.
- The Head Bowling Coach will also serve in a second college assignment of one of the following: Athletic Coordinator, Sports Information Director, Athletic Facilities & Grounds, Admissions, or Residence Life. Assists with internal and external operations and fundraising. Helps with department functions, including but not limited to accounts receivable/requisitions, fitness center and concession stand scheduling, transportation/bus scheduling, sports information and live streaming, facilities and grounds, to include cross country course, ball diamonds, soccer fields, gymnasiums, and the student activity center. Supports the Athletic Director and department with fundraising and community engagement when necessary.
- Ability to recruit and maintain roster size set forth by IVCCD and the MCC Athletic Department. Communicate with prospective or current students via text, email or weekly phone calls. Gives tours of campus to prospective students. Effectively recruit/retain quality students and athletes.
- Coordinates fundraising activities to help with the costs of additional items needed for the program. Work with the MCC Athletic Department to support the mission and goals of the greater department's fundraising initiatives.
- Works and communicates professionally with others in a timely manner. Performs in a manner which benefits student learning. Supports the overall success of the District by performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree required; Playing experience/college coaching or other coaching experience required.
Abilities: Knowledge of and ability to follow college, ICCAC, and NJCAA policies and procedures. Knowledge of intercollegiate Athletic program. Ability to utilize available resources to recruit and retain student-athletes to the campus who will have the ability to be successful. Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations. Ability to effectively identify and resolve problems and to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information. Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate action to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Base Wage: $44,825-$59,000 annually - actual salary will be based on experience and education.
