Position Title: Patrol Officer
Department: ITKN Police Department
Reports To: Chief of Police
Schedule Hours: Rotating Day or Night Shift; 10-12 hr/shift
Employment Type: Non-Exempt/Full-Time
Wage Range: $25 - $35/hr
Position Summary
The Patrol Officer is responsible for protecting the safety and well-being of the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska community through law enforcement, patrol operations, investigations, and community engagement.
This position enforces Tribal, federal, and applicable state laws while supporting public safety, emergency response, and crime prevention efforts. The role contributes to maintaining order, protecting Tribal assets, and building trust within the community through professional and respectful service.
This position is located at the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska near White Cloud Kansas
Key Responsibilities
Patrol and Public Safety
- Perform patrol duties on assigned shifts
- Respond to emergencies, calls for service, and public safety incidents
- Patrol Tribal properties including Casino White Cloud and community areas
- Enforce Tribal laws, codes, policies, and applicable regulations
- Maintain visible presence to deter criminal activity and ensure community safety
Investigations and Enforcement
- Conduct preliminary investigations and prepare reports
- Collect and document evidence and witness statements
- May participate in drug-related investigations and enforcement activities
- Assist with arrests, citations, and court-related documentation as required
Community Engagement
- Support public safety during community events and functions
- Interact professionally with community members, including youth and elders
- Build positive relationships through respectful communication and service
Administrative and Operational Support
- Complete reports, documentation, and required records accurately and timely
- Maintain equipment, uniforms, weapons, and patrol vehicles
- Participate in required trainings and certifications
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills & Abilities

Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduation from a certified law enforcement academy or equivalent training
- Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment
- No felony or domestic violence convictions
Preferred
- Prior Tribal law enforcement experience
- Experience working in community-based policing environments
Other Requirements - Certifications & Training
- Must currently possess Kansas law enforcement certification or be eligible and able to obtain Kansas certification through KLETC/KSCPOST, reciprocity, or other approved certification process within the time required by the Tribe.
- Kansas Law Enforcement Certification or ability to obtain
- Possess Federal Law Enforcement in the Bureau of Indian affairs certification is desirable but other federal training is allowable. Must submit certification verification.
- Must pass background investigation, criminal background check and other screenings no less stringent than required of a Federal officer performing the same law enforcement duties, consistent with applicable Indian Country law enforcement standards.
- Must have a valid Drivers License, the ability to drive daytime and nighttime, and be fully insurable under the Tribe’s insurance policy.
- Ability to maintain firearms proficiency to KLETC, FLETC, or reciprocity standards
- General knowledge of Indian tribal laws, customs and traditions.
- Must be willing to reside within the ITKN Reservation or boundaries, or be at a “minimal” response time.

- Exercises independent judgment during patrol and emergency response activities
- Responds to public safety concerns within established laws and procedures
- Escalates major incidents, investigations, or safety concerns appropriately

- Rotating shift law enforcement environment
- Regular interaction with community members and the public
- Exposure to stressful, emergency, and potentially hazardous situations
Physical Demands
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects
- Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
