Behavioral Health Medical Secretary
Full-Time
Iowa Specialty Hospital behavioral health department is dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-centered behavioral health care. We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented medical secretary to support our clinical and administrative operations.
Monday-Friday (5-day work week).
Primary hours are Monday- Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm.
No holidays. No weekends.
Key responsibilities:
- Answer and route phone calls
- Schedule and reschedule patient appointments
- Maintain accurate patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system
- Verify patient demographics, insurance information, and obtain required forms
- Process referrals
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times
- Support clinicians with general office duties
Qualifications:
- Strong computer skills
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and remain calm in a busy clinical environment
- Previous experience as a medical secretary, medical receptionist, or healthcare front office staff preferred
- Experience in behavioral health, mental health, or substance use treatment settings is a plus
