The Iona University Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) is a STEM enrichment program for students in grades 7th – 12th. The Medical Summer Camp will run for the month of July (7/6/26 – 7/24/26).
Job Description:
- Address the gap in STEM education by providing students with opportunities to enhance skills for success in their academic and future careers.
- Establish innovative ways to create a welcoming place for all students.
- Introduce students to various modern medical treatments.
- Interactive lectures and in-class assignments designed to help students understand the connections between science and medical treatments.
- Examine the functioning of medications.
- Introduce students to basic clinical duties (e.g., pre-op patient interview).
- Introduce students to a variety of medical simulation equipment and communicate proper technique to students.
- Introduce students to anatomy laboratories.
- Basic suture training.
- CPR training.
- Research projects exploring how various modern medical treatments work (treatment of conditions such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc.).
- Coordinate medical/health-related field trips; potential visits to hospital or clinic sites.
- Monitor and address student concerns and inquiries.
- Evaluate student work and write an evaluation of each student after the medical camp ends.
- Works in close collaboration with the STEP Director, STEP Assistant Director, and STEP Student Advisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Job Requirements:
- Must be a current 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year medical student.
- A strong foundation of knowledge in biology, human anatomy & physiology, and medical terminology.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven interpersonal skills.
- Resume and references required.
