The Director of Field Operations  is responsible for the oversight and management of residential PV projects within a given regional site. The Operation Manager provides day-to-day supervision and coordination of the scheduling, inspections, installations, service work and all field activities related to the physical installation of the PV array by Ion Solar installation teams and any coordinated subcontractors.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of offices comprised of 3-5 company offices in other states
  • Manage a team of installers, service technicians, electricians, inspection techs and warehouse employee
  • Formulate performance improvement plans and makes termination decisions as necessary
  • Interview, select, and train new employees
  • Mentor, evaluate employee work and productivity, and develop employees
  • Meet with team members one-on-one to provide continual coaching and evaluation of process and procedures
  • Monitor day to day work of staff for process adherence and compliance
  • Engage in continuing education and training for the team
  • Manage the project schedule throughout the project lifecycle and secure any unique materials and/or equipment required to complete the project
  • Manage relationship with the customer to schedule work and coordinate services
  • Define elements of work, develop scope, solicit and manage bid process for subcontracted work as required
  • Execute all obligations associated with the project contract
  • Define the schedule and budget to meet contract requirements
  • Provide direction and coordination of all field activities
  • Manage the project cycle for residential PV Projects
  • Advise on pre-design, design, and process
  • Oversee installation crews and installation progress
  • Arrange, schedule and conduct key project meetings with inspectors, customers, and sub-contractors
  • Ensure project quality is at or above standards

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of residential construction including practices and sequence of work
  • In-depth knowledge of residential PV installations, and wiring configurations
  • Knowledge of construction contracts, subcontracts, and the bid process
  • Working knowledge of commercial electrical systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to professionally communicate and provide solutions to team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Excellent customer service skills required
  • Regular, reliable and predictable attendance required
  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment

Education and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required
  • 5-7 years of construction related experience; 1-3 of that in PV Solar industry experience
  • Valid state drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal screen.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent out of state travel
  • Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
