Job Description
- This position, based in New York, reports to the VP, Operations Finance in the General Counsel’s Organization. The incumbent will provide an array of financial support to managing counsel groups, including ongoing management of the outside counsel legal invoice processing and annual financial planning exercises. Specifically this position will have responsibility for tracking and reporting against outside counsel budgets, utilizing the company’s subscribed e-billing and matter management tool (Thomson Reuters Legal Tracker); screening of outside counsel invoices to ensure appropriate financial controls and communicating with outside counsel firms on invoice discrepancies
- Preparation of various reports tracking outside counsel expenses and support of internal GCO group budgets; communicating and enforcing and GCO policies regarding case management and billing with outside counsel; support of periodic legal loss reporting efforts; attending to quarter- and year-end processes including preparation of accruals for current year and budgets for ensuing years.
- Additional responsibilities include building and maintaining strong relationships within the General Counsel Organization, with law firm contacts, as well as with business partners across AXP; collaborating with GCO attorneys and Operations colleagues in support of forecasting and results analyses/trends; implement new tools and process changes with regard to the GCO e-billing/matter management database to enhance reporting, enable robust analytics, and drive automation; partnering with colleagues on the GCO Operations team to develop recommendations, influence outcomes, and meet objectives in developing processes in an evolving landscape; creating ad hoc reports within the tool as requested by various members of the GCO; and presenting work products to Senior GCO Leadership.
Qualifications
- The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications: analytical and agile mindset in approach to challenges; data manipulation capability, with an aptitude to learn new database skills; a consultative approach with key stakeholders and an ability to summarize large amounts of data and information into meaningful insights; a self-starter with intellectual curiosity and the ability to advance multiple priorities simultaneously and under tight deadlines.
- Excellent relationship skills; a proven ability to drive outcomes; a willingness to make decisions, to act and lead with courage; strong written, verbal and presentation skills; accounting and financial acumen; comfort with and an eye for detail.
- A bachelor’s degree with 5-7 years of experience in a Finance or relevant analytical role is desirable.
Salary : $55 - $65
