What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant/Prior Authorization Specialist position at Interventional Spine and Joint?
We are an interventional pain management practice dedicated to evaluating and treating non-surgical orthopedic issues.

SUMMARY
As a medical assistant and prior authorization specialist, you must be able to effectively triage patients in a timely manner and perform clinical duties under the supervision of a licensed provider. In addition you will be responsible for obtaining and resolving referrals, precertification, and/or prior authorization to support insurance specific plan requirements for all payers. In addition, you may be responsible for pre-appointment registration and insurance review to maximize the submission of a clean claim.
You may be asked to cross cover as a front office assistant.
Must be able to problem-solve and multitask as we are a fast-paced practice.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assembles information concerning the patient's clinical background and clinical information that is required for the payer to issue a referral or an authorization. Per referral guidelines, provide appropriate clinical information to the payer.
- Contact review organizations and insurance companies to ensure prior approval requirements are met. Present necessary medical information such as history, diagnosis, CPT codes and clinical notes.
- Triage patients to be seen by providers which include, but are not limited to: rooming patients, taking vitals, merging patient charts and communicating directly with patients
- Assist providers in exam rooms
- Effectively process messages between patients and providers or other medical offices
- Report to team lead or physician
- Prior authorizations
REQUIREMENTS
- Detail-oriented
- Willingness to cross-train on all other clinical responsibilities
- Experience using EPIC, eClinicalWorks, or other EHR system preferred
- 1 year clinical experience preferred
- CMA Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
