What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Laboratory Supervisor position at interpath?
Interpath Lab - the Pacific Northwest's Leading Independent medical laboratory, is expanding into Omaha and we are looking for an experienced, forward thinking and dedicated Medical Laboratory Supervisor to join us! This position will include some bench work, and is not a 100% administrative role. Experience in Micro and Molecular is an advantage, but not a requirement for this role.
General Areas of Responsibility:
- Technical supervision
- Respond to inside and outside questions of a technical nature which apply to testing within the division. This will require the maintenance of a broad knowledge range of technical subjects.
- Where assigned, oversee the management and completion of technical laboratory projects.
- Assist in the assessment of tests to be brought in-house, sent out or discontinued.
- Assist in the everyday maintenance of the laboratory, covering bench work and troubleshooting test/instrument problems within the division.
- Manage validations for new test methods, instrumentation, and reagents.
- Personnel supervision
- Determine optimal FTEs within the division, recommending changes.
- Perform evaluations of personnel within the division
- Manage the monthly schedule for the division.
- Assist in the mentorship and development of lead technical and other personnel in the division.
- Manage and approve timecards for personnel within the division.
- Quality assurance and compliance
- Oversee preparation for inspections and accreditation processes within the division.
- Ensure the division performs proficiency testing (PT).
- Ensure appropriate investigations and/or corrective actions are taken on all PT failures within the division.
- Develop and track quality indicators for each department within the division.
- Supervise each department’s quality control (QC) program (e.g., QC materials, testing and tracking, software updates, equipment/instrument preventive maintenance, supervisory reviews).
- Where assigned, oversee all process improvement projects in the division.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of technical procedures (standard operating procedures), logs, forms and policies within the division.
- Assist with new test/instrument selection and implementation, including evaluation of different test methods, reviewing validations and requesting test file changes or additions.
- Ensure initial, 6-month and annual training and competency is completed and documented.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree (MT/MLS)
Experience:
4 years of laboratory training or experience in high complexity testing for Chemistry and Hematology
Must meet the CLIA Technical Supervisor Requirements for Hematology and Chemistry (Core Lab)
Skills:
Proficient use of Microsoft Office products, use of multiple data bases, coordination of people, effective meeting facilitator, effective written and oral communications.
General Physical Requirements
General Office work; prolonged sitting, occasional stooping, reaching, climbing and bending
Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
Manual dexterity for typing, 10-key work, and telephone use.
Driving in all types of conditions, including heavily populated areas, freeway, and rural traffic, hours of darkness, and inclement weather.
