Lab Assistant – Phlebotomy & Processing

Start your career with Interpath Laboratory as a Lab Assistant – Phlebotomy & Processing! This role is ideal for science-oriented, detail-driven individuals who want hands-on experience in a clinical setting. With a slower pace, you’ll take ownership of specimen processing, assist with patient collections, and support essential diagnostic services.

Pay: $17.50 - $23.70 Per Hour DOE 

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:30pm

What You'll Do:

• Lab Operations
  • Take full ownership of pre-analytical processes, including specimen handling, preparation, and processing.
  • Support daily laboratory workflows to ensure accurate and timely testing.
•  Phlebotomy & Specimen Handling
  • Perform phlebotomy and other specimen collection procedures.
  • Receive, label, and manage specimens with accuracy and care.
  • Prepare and coordinate send-out specimens for external laboratory testing.
•  Administrative & Computer Tasks
  • Enter orders and perform clerical/computer-based duties to support operations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation to ensure compliance and smooth workflow.
•  Quality & Accuracy
  • Follow established procedures to ensure specimen integrity and reliable results.
  • Maintain attention to detail in all tasks and processes.
•  Adaptability & Growth
  • Learn new processes, systems, and clinic-specific procedures.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as skills and knowledge develop.

Education & Certification:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Washington Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy certification (MA-P) required

Experience:

• Previous on-the-job phlebotomy experience is preferred but not required
• A consistent work history and reliability is preferred

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients and team members
• Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently

Physical Requirements: 

• Laboratory setting with automated equipment emitting ambient sounds.
• High level of staff interaction in close quarters; must hear alarms to ensure timely response to safety needs.
• Regular handling of potentially infectious samples, with required protective gear (lab coat, gloves, goggles, face shield).
• Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, crawl, twist, and walk on uneven surfaces throughout the day.
• Frequent bending, extended standing, and lifting up to 30 pounds.
• Flexibility to work extended hours or overtime as needed.

OSHA Category: This role involves exposure to blood, body fluids, and/or tissues, with Hepatitis-B vaccination offered to all performing these duties.
