Role Description The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is a contract role responsible for leading the organization’s overall technology vision, strategy, and execution. This hybrid role is based in the New York City Metropolitan Area, with a mix of on-site collaboration and work-from-home flexibility. The CTO will oversee the design and development of digital platforms and tools that support capacity building and multistakeholder engagement for SDGs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and international development best practices. Day-to-day responsibilities include directing software and product development teams, defining technology architecture, managing IT projects and budgets, and establishing robust cybersecurity, data protection, and compliance standards. The CTO will collaborate closely with leadership, program teams, and external partners to integrate innovative technologies into sustainable development initiatives and to support scalable, resilient solutions.
Qualifications
- Strong background in Software Development and Product Development, with experience delivering secure, scalable, and user-centered platforms.
- Demonstrated expertise in IT Strategy and Architecture, including designing technology roadmaps and enterprise-level systems.
- Proven Project Management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage timelines and budgets, and oversee complex technology initiatives.
- Experience working with digital solutions in international development, sustainability, or related sectors, preferably involving multistakeholder platforms.
- Advanced understanding of cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, data governance, and integration of ICT/Internet-based tools in knowledge economy contexts.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate effectively across cultures and disciplines.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including strategic thinking, decision-making, and fostering inclusive, high-performing technology teams.
- Relevant academic background, such as a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree is an asset.
- Experience in the New York City tech or innovation ecosystem and familiarity with international development frameworks (e.g., SDGs) are beneficial.
