INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW: The Development Intern will work closely with the Development Coordinator on maintaining documents and databases with up-to-date information, supporting scheduling and reminders, engaging in prospect research, implementing the fundraising plan, cultivating donors, and planning and executing special events and appeals.
SCHEDULE: 8-10 hours per week. One semester/4 months
START DATE: January 7, 2026
Responsibilities
The Development Intern will gain experience in a range of development activities and funder engagement principles, which are crucial skills to move up in the non-profit sector. They will learn about the donor lifecycle and MOVES management, including prospecting, engagement, cultivation, and recognition. They will learn research and prospecting skills and how to use tools such as funder databases, ProPublica 990 database, and funder websites. They will also learn about the full grant lifecycle including prospecting, proposal development, submission, grant agreements, grant management, reporting, and grant close-out. Through this internship, the intern will develop an in-depth understanding of IRC Resettlement, Asylum, & Integration programming.

- Engage in prospecting research following IRC’s method and strategy to engage potential new funders
- Support Development Coordinator in maintaining and updating information in local database to ensure accurate tracking and project management
- Support Development Coordinator in scheduling development-related meetings and providing program staff with reminders about upcoming deadlines
- Assist in developing materials for donor appeals such as social media posts, newsletter articles, and mailings
- Assist in planning and carrying out special events

Requirements
Required Skills:
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree, or recent graduate
- Students pursuing degrees in the fields of communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit management, business, or other related fields may be particularly interested in this position and are encouraged to apply
- Comfort with research, organizing content, and liaising with staff
- Strong writing and communication skills in English
- Excellent organizational skills, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate
- Ability to use basic functions of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office programs
- Reliable, self-motivated, independent, and able to take on a project assignment and ask for help when needed
