Position Overview
International is seeking a Product Engineer – Product Portfolio Optimization to drive structural product simplification, complexity reduction, and modular discipline for commercial vehicles.
Under the direction of Product & Portfolio Optimization (PPO) leadership, you will execute structured simplification initiatives across defined product areas.
The individual will work cross-functionally to reduce unnecessary variation, improve feature bundling discipline, and increase cross-platform reuse.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a history of executing structured technical initiatives in a matrixed organization and success in driving change without direct authority in a fast-moving environment.
Ultimate responsibility for simplification progress and variation control within assigned scope resides with the Product Engineer.
Responsibilities
- Develop structured simplification plans based on PPO leadership direction
- Identify and reduce redundant, dormant, or overlapping product content
- Reduce unnecessary variant proliferation across models and configurations
- Improve feature bundling discipline and reduce floating configuration options
- Increase cross-platform feature reuse and reduce model-specific variants
- Define and track simplification KPIs aligned to portfolio measurement objectives
- Lead resolution of structured technical issues related to variation and configuration discipline
- Interface with Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Commercial teams to implement simplification initiatives
- Support recurring review cadence and portfolio reporting inputs
- May provide guidance to colleagues with less experience on simplification methods and configuration discipline
- Limited domestic/international travel as required
- Regularly present simplification status and progress to PPO leadership
- Identify cross-functional impacts of product content changes
- Manage simplification efforts from identification through implementation
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science and at least 2 years of product design/development and/or computer science experience
OR
- Master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science and at least 1 year of product design/development and/or computer science experience
OR
- PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

- Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. - Ability to take ownership of structured simplification initiatives with minimal guidance
- Experience working within complex product configuration environments
- Experience working across functions without direct authority
- Strong analytical and structured problem-solving capability
- Working knowledge of product lifecycle and engineering release processes
- Self-starter who follows through on implementation
- Demonstrates sound judgement in selecting technical approaches and trade-offs
- Experience in automotive, heavy equipment, aerospace, or capital goods industries strongly preferred
- Ability to work within a centralized optimization function separate from traditional function areas (Production, Engineering, Procurement, etc.)
