Position Overview
The Vice President of Sales & Marketing is an executive leadership role responsible for driving revenue growth, market expansion, and brand development. This position leads the sales organization, broker network, and marketing function to achieve annual revenue, margin, and growth objectives across multiple brands and affiliated companies.
The VP develops and executes enterprise-wide go-to-market strategies, with a primary focus across key segments including K-12 schools, B & I, healthcare and military. This role builds and strengthens strategic partnerships with brokers, school districts, food service management companies (FSMCs), cooperatives, and distributors, while ensuring compliance with USDA regulations, commodity processing requirements, and school nutrition guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute enterprise-wide commercial and go-to-market strategies to drive revenue growth, market expansion, and margin improvement across multiple brands and channels, with a strong emphasis on K-12 and institutional markets.
- Develop annual sales plans, budgets, forecasts, and pricing strategies while managing product mix, channel strategy, and market penetration across school districts, cooperatives, FSMCs, and other key segments.
- Lead, manage, and develop the field sales organization, including K-12, National Accounts, C-Store, and alternative channels, along with regional leaders, district managers, and broker networks.
- Establish performance metrics, accountability standards, and corrective action plans while optimizing territory alignment, broker effectiveness, and overall sales coverage.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with school nutrition directors, cooperatives, FSMCs, distributors, and other key customers to drive long-term contract growth and retention.
- Lead product and innovation strategy by partnering with Marketing, Culinary, R&D, and Operations to develop and launch school-compliant, market-driven products and manage SKU rationalization and portfolio optimization.
- Execute integrated marketing and trade strategies, including brand positioning, promotions, sampling programs, and representation at industry events such as School Nutrition Association conferences.
- Ensure full compliance with USDA regulations, school nutrition program requirements, and commodity utilization guidelines across all K-12 programs.
- Lead bid strategy, pricing development, and contract specification processes in collaboration with Bid, Operations, and Finance teams to improve win rates and profitability.
- Oversee P&L performance, including revenue growth, gross margin expansion, and expense control, while managing travel, trade show, and marketing budgets.
- Leverage data, market intelligence, and analytics to improve forecasting accuracy, decision-making, and business performance.
- Foster a high-performance culture by championing company values, serving as a brand ambassador, and developing a collaborative, accountable, and results-driven organization.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, or related field required; MBA strongly preferred
- 10 years of progressive sales leadership experience in the food industry
- Minimum 4 years of direct experience in K-12 school foodservice, commodity processing, or broadline distribution
- Proven experience managing a portfolio of $75M in revenue
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Deep expertise in the K-12 school nutrition landscape, USDA commodities, and regulatory requirements
- Strong strategic planning, negotiation, and contract management skills
- Exceptional relationship-building skills with public sector and institutional clients
- Advanced financial and business acumen, including P&L management
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team development capabilities
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Certifications & Requirements
- ServSafe Certification preferred
- Valid driver’s license required
- Ability to pass a background check
Work Environment & Requirements
- Standard business hours with flexibility for evenings and weekends as needed
- Travel required up to 50–60% (customer visits, trade shows, team leadership)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work in varying environments, including food production facilities
