ICS was strategically designed in 2002 to bring together refugee, immigrant and local children in an academically challenging and nurturing environment. Today, the school serves 500 students annually representing more than 60 nationalities and speaking 31 languages. As a Homeroom Teacher, you will play a key role in advancing ICS’s mission by creating a joyful, structured classroom where every student feels known, supported, and challenged. You will deliver high quality instruction, build strong relationships with students and families, and collaborate closely with grade level teammates and school leaders to ensure a safe, inclusive learning environment where every student thrives. Key responsibilities include:
Instructional Planning and Delivery
- Design and deliver high-quality instruction across content areas aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence and the IB PYP framework
- Implement student-centered, inquiry-based instructional practices that promote critical thinking, creativity, and global-mindedness
- Develop weekly lesson plans and contribute to grade-level curriculum mapping and vertical alignment
- Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, linguistic, and social-emotional needs of diverse learners
Assessment and Data Use
- Evaluate student learning through formative, summative, and standardized assessments
- Analyze academic and behavioral data to inform instructional decisions and interventions
- Maintain accurate records including attendance, progress monitoring, and report cards
- Monitor and support student progress toward mastery of grade-level standards
Classroom Culture and Student Support
- Establish and maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment grounded in clear expectations and positive behavior supports
- Foster a multicultural learning community that values diversity, identity, and belonging
- Identify student needs and collaborate with colleagues to support students through processes such as SST, MTSS, counseling referrals, and intervention planning
Family and Community Engagement
- Communicate consistently and professionally with families regarding student progress and well-being
- Participate in home visits and school-wide community-building initiatives
- Engage with translators, social service providers, and community partners to ensure continuity of support between home and school
Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities
- Participate actively in grade-level collaboration, staff meetings, professional learning, and school events
- Support school-wide programs and student activities such as the IB Exhibition and other enrichment opportunities
- Administer required local, state, and federal assessments in accordance with ICS and district guidelines
- Uphold and model the mission, values, and expectations of International Community School
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Are you the one?
We are seeking a strong, enthusiastic Homeroom Teacher with a passion for building relationships and partnering with students, staff, and families to support a thriving school community. To be minimally qualified, you must have:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) Elementary Education Certification (P–5)
The following experience is preferred:
- Experience teaching in an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme setting
- Experience with inquiry-based, culturally responsive instructional practices
- Experience working in linguistically and culturally diverse school communities
