About the Role:

The Import Customer Service Representative plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient handling of imported goods from origin to destination within the United States. This position is responsible for managing communication between suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and internal teams to facilitate timely delivery and resolve any issues that arise during the import process. The role requires a strong understanding of import regulations, documentation requirements, and logistics coordination to minimize delays and ensure compliance. The representative will serve as the primary point of contact for customers regarding their import shipments, providing updates and addressing inquiries with professionalism and accuracy. Ultimately, this role contributes to customer satisfaction and operational excellence by proactively managing import activities and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in import logistics, customer service, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of import regulations, customs documentation, and international shipping processes.
  • Proficiency in using shipment tracking systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with internal teams and external partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with customs brokers and familiarity with U.S. Customs and Border Protection procedures.
  • Knowledge of Incoterms and international trade compliance standards.
  • Experience with ERP or transportation management systems.
  • Support diverse supplier and customer bases.
  • Certification in logistics or supply chain management (e.g., CCLP, CSCP) is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and track import shipments from origin to final delivery, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Communicate regularly with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and internal departments to resolve shipment issues and delays.
  • Monitor compliance with import regulations and company policies, assisting with customs clearance processes as needed.
  • Provide timely and clear updates to customers regarding the status of their import orders and respond promptly to inquiries.
  • Maintain detailed records of shipments, documentation, and communications to support audit and reporting requirements.
