We achieve this by coordinating the efforts of participating congregations, social service agencies, and governmental programs. Our goal is to provide shelter and additional resources to homeless individuals and families within the San Diego region.
Role Summary
Interfaith Shelter Network's El Nido Transitional Living Program serves survivors of domestic violence. The El Nido Case Manager works closely with program participants who are victims of domestic violence and their children, providing one-on-one case management, crisis management, support, referrals, and advocacy, as needed to ensure participants achieve their individual goals. The El Nido Case Manager works closely with and is supervised by the El Nido Program Manager.
Role Duties
- Initiate and participate in the program participant intake process
- Meet with each family in caseload one to two times per week for case management sessions
- Assist the family in creating individual case plans outlining family goals; evaluate progress towards goals and revise as needed
- Interface with service providers and stay informed about available outside resources for referrals
- Teach and monitor budgeting skills with clients
- Monitor the parenting skills of clients
- Provide case management guidance following a client’s transition out of the program
- Complete and keep up-to-date case notes, case plans, evaluations, and other necessary paperwork in each client’s file, including entering client data in HMIS on a timely basis if required by funders
- Participate in resident meetings and groups
- Model good communication skills
- Accept supervision and direction from the Program Manager and work as a team with the manager, volunteers, and other staff members, as well as maintain a professional relationship with current and past clients, agency staff, volunteers, and outside service providers.
- Advocate on the client's behalf with outside service providers
- Assist each client with planning for her transition from the program
- Other duties as delegated by the El Nido Program Manager
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
- Minimum Experience: 1-year job-related Social Service experience, residential setting preferred, or a combination of relevant education and experience working with domestic violence survivors preferred
- Knowledge of community resources
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish/English required
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to set personal and client boundaries
- Completion of the 40-hour Domestic Violence counselor training as approved by the State of California, preferred at the time of hire
- Candidates will be subject to a background check.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Must be able to sit and stand for long periods, walk, lift, bend, and climb
- Could need to lift up to 50 pounds
- Schedule: Monday to Friday; most days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and occasionally 11 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., some weekends. Able to adjust the schedule.
- Some travel is required.
- Valid Driver’s License with own transportation required.
