Job Summary

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant ("COTA") II helps plan and implement patient treatment, plan and coordinate patient discharge, and prepare detailed progress reports and appropriate patient documentation. Treatments will include training in daily living activities, functional skills, motor development, compensation techniques use of adaptive equipment and splinting.

Responsibilities and Duties

Essential Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Under the direction of a licensed OT to:
  • Determine patients' treatment needs.
  • Participate in patient assessment, including providing information to a licensed OT for analysis.
  • Provide patient treatment and services, as recommended by a licensed OT.
  • Ensure treatment programs meet patients' daily living needs.
  • Assure all required written patient documentation and Company paperwork are completed. appropriately and submitted on a timely basis.
  • Complete all required documentation from daily treatments performed prior to leaving the facility.
  • Recommend termination of services or treatment, as necessary.
  • Carry out assignments given by the Director of Rehabilitation.
  • Maintain strong professional relationships and good rapport with all significant administrative and restorative nursing personnel in the facility.
  • Submit all billing logs and necessary information on a timely basis.
  • Assist DOR with following up with HMO case managers for authorizations as requested.
  • Attend Triple Check
  • Report to work regularly and on time.
  • Report any problem areas/equipment within each facility to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
  • Comply with State Licensing Board of California, Title 22, CMS, and California Labor Board guidelines.
  • Comply with Company and facility rules, policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all applicable safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Under the direction of a licensed OT to:
  • Supervise Level 1 students regularly.
  • Supervise Level 2 students at least 2 times annually.
    • Providing clearly defined, career-related (i.e., non-clerical) responsibilities and tasks in accordance with the students' academic programs.
    • Informing student interns about and ensuring their compliance with Company, facility, state, and federal guidelines.
    • Completing any paperwork required by the Company or the students' academic program
  • Perform Body Mechanics and transfer training in-services to the nursing staff.
  • Perform splint rounds and report to DOR any issues for needed follow up.
  • Report to work regularly and on-time

  • Assume other duties as assigned.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds. Moving, lifting, or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and/or work 80% of an 8-hour shift.
  • Ability to bend, reach, squat, move as required by patient treatment plans.
  • Ability to travel, as required.
  • Ability to operate standard rehabilitation therapy equipment.
  • Visual and hearing acuity to perform job-related functions.
  • See projects through to completion.

Required

  • Valid and current License, Health Examination, TB Test and/or Chest X-Ray, CPR according to the Credential requirement in the Employee Handbook.
  • No current citation or probation listed on the Occupational Therapy Board of California.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience.
  • Ability to gather and analyze information in a timely and skillful manner.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently.

  • Ability to exhibit a high level of confidentiality.

Workplace Environment

The job will primarily be working in a skilled nursing facility. This is an active patient care environment. This environment has no hazardous Health and Safety exposures. However, Health and Safety precautions must be taken at all times.

Salary Range: $33.00 to $38.00
