What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Preschool Teacher Assistant position at Interdisciplinary Center for Child Development?
ICCD is required to follow the laws and regulations of federal, state, and local government, including DOH licensing requirements. The specific responsibilities of any staff member can be modified to ensure the safe, efficient operation of the agency.
Essential Functions:
1) To assist the teacher in all aspects of working with the children during instructional time.
2)To assist in the planning and setting up of classroom activities.
3) To assist in maintaining the Daily Goal Sheets for the children in the class.
4) Participation in team meetings and case conferences as required.
5) To work with individual children and small groups as directed by the teacher.
6) Interact appropriately with children including proper level of voice, language and facial expressions.
7) Maintain a clean, safe and nurturing classroom environment.
8) Follow team recommendations when working with children, including following behavior modification programs.
9) To maintain appropriate professional relationships with the children and their families and staff.
10) Attend all discipline, team and staff meetings as required.
11) Bussing includes escorting students to and from classrooms and any following all required safety procedures (see program specific bussing policy).
12) Constructively engage in the supervisory process with teacher and educational director.
13) Maintain open communication within the teacher/ assistant teacher relationship.
14) Responsible for assisting in all ADL activities, including toileting, hand washing, and feeding.
15) Follow the lesson plans provided by the teacher, in their absence.
16) Provide coverage program wide when necessary.
17) Be familiar with all special alerts, allergies, special equipment and/ or restrictions regarding students in the classroom.
18) Responsible in assisting in the implementation of the student's IEPs
Additional Duties:
1) Responsible along with other staff members for the safety and well being of the children in the class.
2) And any other duties as may be deemed necessary, for the safe, efficient and effective operation of the agency.
Working Conditions; (Physical):
1) May need to escort and carry small children.
2) Toileting and diapering of children as needed.
Required Education:New York State Teacher Assistant Certification Level I, II, or III. HS diploma or equivalent.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $32, $36,000.00 per year
