Heavy Equipment Operator

Location: Illinois (Current Opening)
Travel: Frequent travel throughout the Midwest required

Position Summary

ISI Solar is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operator to join our growing solar construction team. This position is responsible for operating a variety of heavy equipment in support of utility-scale and distributed generation solar projects throughout the Midwest. The ideal candidate will have experience working on civil construction sites, be comfortable traveling, and possess a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.

The Heavy Equipment Operator will play a key role in site preparation, grading, erosion control, vegetation management, and overall project execution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely operate heavy equipment including:
  • Bulldozers
  • Mini Excavators
  • Skid Steers
  • Tractors with Scrapers and Attachments
  • Perform site grading, earthmoving, trenching, backfilling, and material handling activities.
  • Assist with erosion control installation and site stabilization efforts.
  • Perform rough and finish grading to project specifications.
  • Operate equipment around underground and overhead utilities.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete equipment inspection reports.
  • Identify and report maintenance issues and coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Read and interpret site plans, grading plans, and construction drawings.
  • Maintain compliance with company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Work closely with project managers, superintendents, and field crews to meet production goals.
  • Assist with general labor tasks when equipment operation is not required.
  • Maintain accurate daily production and equipment utilization records.
  • Travel to project sites throughout the Midwest as required.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 2 years of heavy equipment operating experience.
  • Experience operating bulldozers, mini excavators, skid steers, and tractors with scraper attachments.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout the Midwest.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong understanding of equipment safety practices and jobsite hazards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred

  • Experience on solar, utility, civil, agricultural, or renewable energy construction projects.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • CDL Class A or Class B.
  • Experience with GPS machine control systems.
  • Basic mechanical and equipment maintenance knowledge.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb on and off heavy equipment multiple times per day.
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, wet, dusty, and windy conditions.
  • Ability to walk uneven terrain on active construction sites.
