CNC Machinist – Prototype Manufacturing

Overview

We are seeking experienced CNC Machinists to support a rapid prototype machine shop focused on precision components for automated conveyance systems and robotics hardware. This is a hands-on manufacturing role responsible for operating and/or setting up CNC mills, producing parts to tight tolerances, and maintaining high standards for quality and safety.

The team is expanding due to a significant production backlog and offers the opportunity to work with advanced multi-axis machinery while developing machining expertise across multiple controller platforms.

Core Responsibilities

CNC Setup Machinist

• Review job travelers and setup sheets.
• Read and edit G/M code and interpret machining blueprints.
• Tram vises, load fixtures, and dial in tight tolerances.
• Use bore gauges and other precision measurement equipment to verify dimensions.
• Prove out first articles and hand off completed setups to machine operators.
• Troubleshoot machining and setup issues as needed.
  
  

CNC Machine Operator

• Perform daily machine checks, including coolant and oil levels.
• Load and unload raw stock and completed parts.
• Run assigned CNC mill jobs and maintain consistent cycle times.
• Deburr completed parts.
• Complete in-process inspection documentation using calipers and micrometers.
• Maintain blueprint tolerances and quality requirements throughout production.
  
  

All Machinists

• Participate in daily team stretches and morning job/machine assignment huddles.
• Work closely with other machinists and shop leadership within the CNC department.
• Follow established safety and manufacturing procedures.
• Maintain a strong focus on craftsmanship, precision, and production consistency.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Direct, hands-on manufacturing or machine shop experience with CNC mills.
• CNC Operator: 3 years of CNC mill operation and maintenance experience.
• Setup Machinist: 5 years of CNC mill operation and setup experience.
• Proficiency with precision measurement tools, including calipers, micrometers, and bore gauges.
• Ability to complete and document in-process inspections.
• Setup Machinist: Ability to read and interpret blueprints and troubleshoot G/M code.
• Ability to work on your feet for an 8-hour shift and handle loading/unloading of materials.
• Strong ownership and willingness to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with mill-turn or multi-tasking lathe/mill equipment.
• Experience with Mazak Integrex or other multi-axis platforms.
• Trade school or vocational machining certification.
• Experience working across multiple CNC controller types.

Schedule & Physical Requirements

• Primary schedule: 6:00 AM–3:00 PM, 8-hour shift.
• Approximately 5 hours of overtime.
• Role is active and primarily performed on your feet.
• Requires lifting and loading materials and working around precision machinery and other shop-floor equipment.
• Hands-on training is provided directly by an experienced Shop Lead, with progression from Haas CNC mills to Mazak and more advanced multi-axis equipment based on demonstrated skill.
