About the Role:

The CNC Lathe Machinist plays a critical role in the manufacturing process by operating and programming computer numerical control (CNC) lathes to produce precision parts and components. This position requires a deep understanding of machining techniques, materials, and tooling to ensure that all products meet stringent quality and specification standards. The machinist will collaborate closely with engineering and quality assurance teams to interpret technical drawings and optimize machining processes. Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols are paramount to maintain a safe and efficient work environment. Ultimately, the role contributes directly to the company’s ability to deliver high-quality products on time and within budget.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience operating CNC lathe machines in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Proven Experience with precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, and materials.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship or technical training program in CNC machining.
  • Experience with CNC programming and CAM software.
  • Knowledge of ISO quality standards and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to perform basic machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with an EDM, Mills, and Fabrication.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up, operate, and maintain CNC lathe machines to manufacture precision parts according to engineering specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD/CAM programs to determine machining operations and sequences.
  • Perform routine inspections and measurements using precision instruments to ensure parts meet quality standards.
  • Adjust machine settings and tooling as necessary to optimize production efficiency and part accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate production records and report any issues or deviations to supervisors promptly.
  • Collaborate with maintenance personnel to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical or programming issues.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety guidelines and maintain a clean and organized work area.

Skills:

The CNC Lathe Machinist utilizes technical skills daily to set up and operate complex machinery, ensuring parts are produced to exact specifications. Proficiency in reading blueprints and CAD drawings allows the machinist to accurately interpret design requirements and translate them into precise machining operations. Measuring and inspection skills are essential to verify part quality and maintain consistency throughout production runs. Programming knowledge enhances the ability to optimize machine performance and reduce downtime by adjusting CNC parameters effectively. Additionally, strong communication and problem-solving skills facilitate collaboration with team members and quick resolution of any operational challenges.
