Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in financial principles, regulatory compliance, and accounting software. Duties
- Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP and regulatory standards
- Manage general ledger accounting, including journal entries and account reconciliations using software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or PeopleSoft
- Conduct balance sheet reconciliations and bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial data
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely processing and compliance
- Perform financial analysis, cash flow analysis, and budgeting to support strategic decision-making
- Assist with regulatory reporting requirements and internal audits
- Support tax preparation activities, including experience with tax laws related to Wills, trusts & estate law if applicable
- Maintain accurate records of debits & credits, double entry bookkeeping, and accrual accounting practices
- Contribute to financial report writing and interpretation for management review
- Ensure compliance with SOX controls and LIHTC regulations where applicable
- Mentor junior staff on accounting procedures and best practices
Experience
- Proven experience in corporate accounting, public accounting, or non-profit accounting environments
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, SEC regulations (including securities law), and financial concepts
- Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms
- Demonstrated expertise in financial statement preparation, account reconciliation, journal entries, and general ledger management
- Experience with governmental accounting standards and regulatory reporting is preferred
- Familiarity with financial analysis tools including Microsoft Excel for data analysis and forecasting
- Knowledge of tax regulations related to non-profit organizations or estate planning is advantageous
- Ability to mentor team members while managing multiple priorities effectively
