What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intellectual Property Litigation Attorney position at Intellectual Property Consulting?
Intellectual Property Litigation Attorney
Intellectual Property Consulting (“IPC”), a boutique firm specializing in intellectual property law, seeks an intellectual property attorney to join our Birmingham office. This position will focus on litigation in state and federal courts, but the ideal candidate must have an interest in handling different aspects of intellectual property including licensing and prosecution work. Candidates must have a J.D. from an accredited law school and must be admitted to a U.S. bar. At least three (3) years litigation experience is required, including courtroom experience, conduct and defend depositions, drafting complex motions, drafting and responding to written discovery, strong legal research skills and above average writing skills. This is a serious courtroom practice with real responsibility, real hearings, and real first-chair expectations. The ideal candidate is comfortable in a courtroom, capable of managing matters independently, and motivated to build a practice. Our other criteria for this position are flexible, but preference will be given to candidates with a number of factors:
- Specific intellectual property experience is NOT required, but will be given preference.
- Although 3 years experience required, preference will be given to candidates with 5 or more years.
- Candidates who have passed the patent bar, or have eligibility and willingness to sit for the patent bar, will be given preference.
- Preference will be given to litigation attorneys who also have basic corporate experience, such as entity formation and preparation of corporate governance documents such as operating agreements and shareholder agreements.
- Portable intellectual property business will be given a strong preference, although not required (IP attorneys with a strong portable book of business may be considered for a separate position with the firm).
