Job Title: Tooling Engineer
Location: Libertyville, IL
Position Overview:
The Tooling Engineer will be responsible for designing, validating, and optimizing tooling solutions—including molds, jigs, and fixtures—to support manufacturing operations. This role involves troubleshooting tooling issues, implementing design improvements, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure successful part qualification and production readiness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and engineer moderately complex tooling for molds, jigs, and fixtures based on product specifications.
- Participate in design reviews and conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM) evaluations.
- Perform validation for molding designs and resolve tooling-related issues.
- Implement cost-effective tooling modifications and design changes.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams for part qualification, sampling, and approval.
- Provide timely status reports and maintain documentation for tooling and tool room equipment.
Required Experience & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field OR equivalent training and 8 years of experience in thermoplastics, thermosets, injection molding, mold validation, and tooling troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of molding processes and mold flow analysis.
- Proficiency using engineering tools and experience working with electronic assembly (color codes, components, schematics).
- Experience in PCB operations, including testing with oscilloscopes, cable/harness testing, logic analyzers, and component troubleshooting.
- Inspection experience for boards, systems, components, and mechanical measurements.
- Familiarity with mechanical and electrical tools such as taps, dies, alignment tools, and various measuring equipment.
