Job Title : Materials Engineer / Materials Scientist (Lab – Medical Devices)
Location St. Paul, Minnesota
Duration : 6 Months (Possible Extension)
Role Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Materials Engineer / Scientist to support materials assessment, R&D, and regulatory submissions within a dynamic lab environment. This role involves performing advanced material characterization, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and delivering high-quality technical documentation in a regulated setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform materials characterization and testing using techniques such as SEM/EDS, metallography, optical microscopy, microhardness, Raman, and FTIR
- Design and execute test plans in collaboration with project teams and scientists
- Conduct hands-on laboratory analysis to support R&D and product development
- Analyze experimental data and prepare technical reports and documentation
- Maintain accurate records in electronic lab notebooks (ELN) in compliance with GMP/regulatory standards
- Support problem-solving initiatives and materials investigations
- Work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- 1–3 years of experience in materials characterization or laboratory testing
- Hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation (e.g., SEM, FTIR, Raman, microscopy)
- Experience working in regulated environments (GMP preferred)
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in medical devices or biomaterials (e.g., nitinol, titanium, polymers)
- Familiarity with biological material interactions
- Experience with failure analysis or advanced materials testing
