About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Japanese Translator to support our team in New York City. This role involves court depositions and may require on-camera court appearances. Professional attire appropriate for a courtroom setting would be required. This role requires strong linguistic ability in both Japanese and English, along with cultural fluency to ensure accurate and contextually appropriate translations. The position is on-site, with three days required on-site in our NYC office, though additional support before and after depositions may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate verbally from Japanese to English and English to Japanese with high accuracy.
- Review and edit translated documents for clarity, grammar, and consistency
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure messaging aligns with business objectives
- Adapt translations to suit cultural nuances and target audiences
- Maintain terminology databases and translation memory tools
- Meet deadlines while managing multiple translation projects simultaneously
Qualifications
- Native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and English
- Proven experience as a translator (professional or freelance)
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Familiarity with translation tools (e.g., CAT tools) is preferred
- Ability to work on-site in New York City three days per week
- Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, or a related field is a plus
